Romania's Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc on Wednesday welcomed to the Defence Ministry headquarters US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy James J. Townsend Jr. to underscore the excellent bilateral cooperation between Romania and the US and the major support of the US as part of the allied assurance measures on the eastern flank of NATO.
Also attending the meeting was US ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm.
MApN reports in a press statement that discussed at the meeting were the latest developments in regional security, bilateral cooperation under the strategic partnership between Romania and the US, the US facilities in Romania, as well as Romania's commitment to the theatres of operations in Afghanistan.
Motoc highlighted bilateral cooperation between Romania and the US and the major support of the US as part of the allied assurance measures on the eastern flank of NATO, while taking stock of means to consolidate the US commitment at the American defence facilities in Romania and also to intensify cooperation in the areas of navy, air and land forces.
He also mentioned the importance of bilateral coordination inside NATO ahead of the NATO 2016 summit to be hosted by Warsaw, with emphasis on the long-term strategic adaptation of the alliance, says MApN.
In his turn, Townsend Jr thanked Romania for its significant contribution inside NATO, saying that Romania is an exceptional ally.
He highlighted Romania's national contribution to the NATO efforts for stabilisation in Afghanistan, commending the Romanian troops for their part in the counselling and assistance missions for the Afghan Security Forces.
