President Iohannis and Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico agreed on an exchange of experience with fighting corruption
Romania's President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday met Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, with whom he agreed on an exchange of experience with fighting corruption at the level of experts, the Romanian Presidential Administration reports in a press statement.
The conversation with Fico is said to have been focused on the need to support boosting the dynamics of bilateral economic cooperation and also on migration crisis, which gained new and acute valences in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Paris.
"Energy security challenge and the importance of developing projects and interconnections that contribute to a decrease in Europe's energy dependence were also themes of utmost interest in the conversation," reads the statement.
Iohannis also met Chairman of the National Slovakian Council Peter Pellegrini, with the two voicing satisfaction over the special level of parliamentary cooperation between Romania and Slovakia. They highlighted the importance of such cooperation, especially ahead of Slovakia's H2, 2016 Presidency of the European Council, which main priority - digital agenda - is a shared interest of the two countries.
Also discussed was the European agenda, with emphasis on the challenges of the migration crisis, the interests of both countries in the creation of an Energy Union and their coordination in the second half of 2016, under the Slovakian presidency.
Iohannis is paying an official visit to Slovakia, Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday he also met his Slovakian counterpart Andrej Kiska.
On Thursday, Iohannis is scheduled to go to Zvolen to lay a wreath at the Military Cemetery of the Romanian Army, together with his Slovakian counterpart, and attend a ceremony for the decoration of Slovakian WWII veterans. He is also expected to meet briefly Slovakian veterans and locals at a meeting organised by the town's mayor.
