The Republic of Moldova's joining the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) as a full member represents a significant step for regional cohesion and security, Defence Minister Angel Tilvar said in Ankara, the host of the SEDM meeting.
"I am glad that our efforts to convince all SEDM members to vote for the Republic of Moldova's accession to this format were successful," Tilvar said, as cited in a Wednesday release of the National Defence Ministry.
"The close relationship and cooperation with the Republic of Turkey, highlighted by the success of the ministerial meeting in Ankara, is an admirable example of our robust partnership. This collaboration reaffirms the joint commitment to regional stability and prosperity. I took this opportunity to express, together with my counterpart, our confidence that we will soon conclude negotiations for the sea mines clearing project in the Republic of Turkey - Romania - Bulgaria trilateral format," Tilvar said, emphasizing the South-East European Brigade's essential role for the region.
On the sidelines of the meeting in Ankara, Minister Tilvar met with his Georgian counterpart Juansher Burchuladze, with the two approaching current aspects of bilateral cooperation, such as the Black Sea security situation and security and defence cooperation under the auspices of NATO or the EU. The sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening collaboration between the two countries on matters of common interest, as Georgia is considered one of the most appreciated and long-lasting partners of Romania.
In the interval 2023 - 2025, Romanian holds the chairmanship of the South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial Process Coordination Committee (SEDM-CC) and of the Politico-Military Steering Committee (PMSC) of the Multinational Peace Force South-Eastern Europe (MPFSEE).
