Deputy Sebastian Ghita says summoned by corruption prosecutors in case involving Tony Blair too

Prosecutors with the Ploiesti National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) on Tuesday placed deputy Sebastian Ghita under 60-day court supervision, in a case in which he is accused of accessory to committing money laundering.

Deputy Sebastian Ghita said on Tuesday, at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, that he was summoned to the Ploiesti offices of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) to be heard in a case where the name of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair appears too.

"I was summoned today to DNA Ploiesti. It is my understanding that this is about the meeting in 2011 of the UK Ambassador to Bucharest (Martin Harris), Mr. Tony Blair, Mr. Razvan-Mihai Ungureanu (Foreign Intelligence Service, SIE), and the award of the honorary doctorate to Tony Blair. And I think that the Ploiesti anti-corruption prosecutors are now investigating the Tony Blair problem," Sebastian Ghita said before entering the trial session at the Supreme Court.

Asked if the DNA Ploiesti case stands in any connection whatsoever with corruption deeds or deals among top politicians, Sebastian Ghita said: "I don't exactly know what the charges are. However, I know that the name of former UK Premier Tony Blair also appears in this case. We'll see what this is about. (...) I have no expectation, but after all I've seen of the DNA prosecutors, they are building cases there, at this elite unit, and I hope we don't get to the point where they query us about the meeting in South Africa among Ponta, Blair and Obama. (...) They are highly prolific, those in Ploiesti. I don't think this is about corruption. I think today we have a very restrictive way of looking at our activities and if we interpret any detail in life as corruption, then we'll have cases built. Maybe tomorrow, or the day after, the sale of a house or of a car could also turn into a corruption deed, with a little arranged denouncement."

Ghita said that he would also report to DNA Ploiesti after the trial session at the Supreme Court wraps up.
