DIICOT investigates aspects brought out by The Sun about toys assembled by Romanian children
The Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) investigates articles written by The Sun on the fact that members of poor families in northern Romania assembled surprise toys from Kinder eggs for little money. Timea Jurj, the woman from Carei accused by The Sun of using her minor children to assemble Kinder eggs denied allegations and said that nothing of what was true. She declared on Tuesday that British journalists said they wanted to promote Kinder eggs which are very expensive in Britain and wanted to see how they were made, but it was all a trap.
“Nothing is true of what was written in the British newspaper. It was a frame up: they made the children sit as they wanted and even took a picture of me and the kids. You can see how they smile. They did not assemble Kinder eggs and I did not exploit them. The journalists from Britain told me they wanted to promote Kinder eggs which are expensive in England and wanted to see how they are made. I fell into their trap. They came to us because we have minor children but did not go to other families which do not have kids and do the same thing, because they were not interested,’Jurj said.
She added that she assembled Kinder eggs herself at home and that Biritsh journalists had been brought to her house by a cab driver from Carei.
Daniel Muresan, employed by Romexa DA, in charge of the activity carried out in the northern area said he knew nothing of activities externalised by the company.
“It is for the first time that I hear about that but I will learn who is responsible and we will terminate collaboration with factories involved if we discover that accusations are true,”The Sun said.
Prolegis, the factory subcontracted by Romexa SA had incomes of 600,000 euros in 2015.
“We do not externalize toy parts. Certainly they come from other parts,”Marcel Bront, the director of Prolegis, told the British journalists.
Romexa is a company that had profits of over 4 million euros and only 8 employees.
A source working for Kinder product line told the British journalists that the management of Ferrero chocolate factory did not know what happened in Romania.
Ferrero declared later on that it guaranteed its workers the lowest salary per economy and forbade the use of children in the production process.
Satu Mare Labour Inspectorate started an investigation on Tuesday in the case of the Carei family who assembled Kinder eggs. Investigations showed that the parents did not seem to be hired by the two companies that carried out this activity.
