Dodon: Traian Basescu might be declared persona non grata
Commissions within the Civil Society Council next to the president of Moldova request the initiation of the procedure declaring Traian Basescu persona non grata, president Igor Dodon announced.
These commissions held meetings about actions carried out in Moldova by Romanian citizen Traian Basescu, Dodon announced on his Facebook account.
“These commissions request the initiation of procedures declaring Mr Basescu persona non grata in our country,” Dodon says.
He also presents a report of the Commission for the consolidation of state character and country reintegration.
The commission considers that Basescu attempts to Moldova’s national sovereignty, creates additional impediments in the process of settling the conflict in Transnistria, propagates xenophobia, moldophobia and russiophobia, creates tensions in interethnic relations and deepens the division of Moldovan society, creates the premises for mass unrest and crimes and spreads distrust in Moldova’s national state values.
The commission requests the amendment of the law on national security, explaining that in all European states, Romania included, the activity of people against the country’s sovereignty and independence is considered a risk, attempt, serious crime against the state and is punished according to penal law with many years in prison.
The request also includes the completion of Moldova’s Penal Code so that foreign citizens accused of crimes against the country’s sovereignty and independence should be punished and expelled or declared persona non grata.
