Dragobete, Romanian Valentine's Day , celebrated on February 20 and 21 at Village Museum
Dragobete, the Romanian Valentine's Day will be celebrated on February 20 and 21 at “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum, with folk artists and masters, who will present traditions about the coming of spring.
“A mythological entity similar to Cupid, Dragobete is part of the pagan gods in the Balkan and Danube- Black Sea area, where he was the protector of animals and of love between people who meet and become engaged on that day. On Dragobete day, Romanian villages celebrated not only love and fertility but also healing and rebirth through the power of nature and plants. It was said that people who participated in this celebration would not get affected by diseases and especially fever and Dragobete helped them have a prosperous year,” said professor Paula Popoiu, the manager of the National Village Museum.
