EU's Strategy for Danube Region Annual Forum, in Bucharest, on October 28 – 29

The European Union's Strategy for the Danube Region Annual Forum will take place on the days of October 28 and 29 in Bucharest, gathering governmental representatives of 14 Danube riparian states, together with European officials.

'The Forum is the major event of the Danube Strategy, in the conditions in which the Strategy is a quite special reality, not an institution, not an organisation with own structures, it is, in fact, a cooperation mechanism (...), a new form of the cohesion policy of the European Union, which, after the enlargement, realised it needed to rethink its mechanisms for achieving these cohesion policies, adapting them to a reality with more states, much more different from the development level point of view,' explained diplomat Carmen Podgorean, national coordinator for the Danube Strategy implementing.

The Forum, 'The Danube Strategy, stronger together, stronger in the world,' is organised by Romania's Government together with the European Commission and is aimed at the approach of the manner in which the strategy helps the riparian states deal with the current common challenges, but also to influence the economy's revival, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The discussion topics will approach the role of the Danube Strategy in the economic growth and the new job creation, balancing the economic development with the ecology and the environment risk management, the project funding for the Danube Strategy in the future European financial framework 2014 - 2020.

On Monday, in the opening of the forum to be hosted by the Palace of Parliament, Deputies' Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea, Prime Minister Victor Ponta, European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, Vice Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea, Romanian and Austrian chief diplomats, Titus Corlatean and Michael Spindelegger, will be delivering speeches.

On the sidelines of the Forum, there will be organised the meeting of foreign affairs ministers and the meeting of regional development ministers of the EUSDR states, related events, such as the 3rd Danube Financing Dialogue, the Danube Innovation Partner seminar and other activities initiated by the coordinators of priority areas of the strategy.
