Eurostat: Romania one of the countries with most important industrial output drops in EU, in May

Industrial output in EU and euro zone grew slightly in May 2023, compared to April 2023, but Romania is among member countries with most important drops of industrial output in EU, according to data released by Eurostat on Thursday.

 

According to those data, industrial output grew by 0.2% in the euro zone and by 0.1% in EU compared to April. However, member states with most important industrial output drops were Ireland (minus 4.9%), Lithuania (minus 2.8%), Romania and Belgium (both with minus 1.2%).

 

At annual level, in May 2023 compared to May 2022 dropped by 2.2% in the euro zone and by 1.8% in EU. In this case, Romania, with a decline of 5.5% is among member states with the most important industrial output drops, next to: Ireland (minus 16.2%), Estonia (minus 12.8%), Bulgaria (minus 11%), the Netherlands (minus 8.9%), Latvia (minus 8.8%) and Luxembourg (minus 5.5%).

 

The evolution of industrial production in the euro zone in May 2023 is below analysts' estimates, which counted on a 0.3% advance compared to the previous month and on a contraction of 1.2% compared to May 2022.

 

Data published previously by the National Statistics Institute show that in Romania, in May 2023, industrial output gre by 13.1% compared to the previous month. On the other hand, industrial output adjusted according to the number of working days and season, dropped in May by 0.8% against April.

 

Compared to the same month of 2022, industrial output dropped by 4.8%. On adjusted series industrial output was 5.2% lower.
