On July 12, Ambassador Kavalec arrived in Constanta to inaugurate the We the People outdoor photo exhibit displayed in Constanta’s picturesque Piata Ovidiu – a momentous occasion commemorating over 25 years of the U.S.-Romania Strategic Partnership. A flagship cultural diplomacy project of the U.S. Embassy in partnership with the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Press Agency Agerpres, and the University of Craiova, the traveling exhibit captures the human element that is critical to our successful bilateral relationship. The exhibit traveled through Craiova, Timisoara, Bucharest, Sibiu, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, and Constanta. The We the People exhibit is a testament to the multifaceted relations between the two nations and provides a source of reflection on our shared history and inspiration for our shared future.
Later in the evening, the ambassador hosted an opening reception at the prestigious Museum of National History and Archeology. The museum’s beautiful architecture and rich historical artifacts and exhibits provided a captivating backdrop for the event. Ambassador Kavalec emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections and captured the spirit of the display by saying: “The exhibit you see today here in Piata Ovidiu, We the People, is a photo essay that celebrates and explores the multifaceted relationship between Romanians and Americans. These photos tell the story of our diplomatic, security, economic, and cultural collaboration and cooperation and the fruits of those efforts – what two great nations working together can achieve.” Ministry of Culture State Secretary Diana-?tefana Baciuna, Constanta Mayor Vergil Chitac, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director for Cultural Diplomacy Andrei Luca, and National Press Agency Agerpres Director General Claudia Nicolae also delivered remarks at the reception.
On July 13, Ambassador Kavalec toured the Cernavoda Nuclear Plant, accompanied by Nuclearelectrica CEO Cosmin Ghita and Cernavoda Plant Director Valentin Nae. The Cernavoda Nuclear Plant stands as a symbol of the strong energy cooperation between the United States and Romania. While viewing the safe and advanced technologies employed at the plant, Ambassador Kavalec engaged in discussions on nuclear energy, highlighting its role in driving sustainable development and enhancing energy security.
Later that day, Ambassador Kavalec visited Cernavoda City Hospital accompanied by Cernavoda Hospital Director Marius Sponoche and Cosmin Ghita, where Ambassador Kavalec participated in the inauguration of a new hospital wing sponsored by Nuclearelectrica, one of several of the latter’s social responsibility projects over the last few years. The Ambassador’s tour of the hospital underscored the importance of quality healthcare services and the enduring commitment to the well-being of the Romanian people.
