ForMin Aurescu has telephone conversation with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
The desire to enlarge the bilateral political-diplomatic dialogue and sectoral relations, as well as the recent developments on a regional and international level, with a focus on the situation in the Middle East, have been the topics of the telephone conversation that Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu had on Wednesday with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir.
"The Foreign Affairs Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir. On this occasion, the Romanian chief diplomat congratulated the Saudi counterpart on the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, celebrated today, addressing wishes of peace and prosperity to the entire Saudi nation. Minister Bogdan Aurescu reiterated, and the Saudi minister reconfirmed, the desire to strengthen and enlarge the bilateral political-diplomatic dialogue and sectoral relations, on the previously set coordinates, during the visit to Bucharest of the Saudi dignitary of February 12, 2020, and the telephone conversation between the two ministers of July 23, 2020. The meeting occasioned an opinion exchange on the recent developments on a regional and international level, with a focus on the situation in the Middle East," reads a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) release sent on Wednesday.
According to the source, Aurescu presented the main conclusions of the visit paid over September 2 - 3 to Israel and Palestine, reiterated Romania's support of a sustainable and comprehensive solving of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on international law and the two states' solution, and showed that Romania would continue to support the engagement of the two sides in a constructive dialogue, aimed at resuming the direct negotiations between the two sides for identifying a sustainable solution.
"The two officials had an opinion exchange on the process of normalization of relations in the region, with a reference to the recent developments between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, respectively. The Romanian head of diplomacy pointed out that such initiatives contribute to improving the climate of security and confidence in the region, Romania thus encouraging such progress. The two ministers also discussed the situation in Yemen. The Romanian chief diplomat reiterated Romania's constant support for the stabilization and peace demarches, encouraging the responsible participation of all parties involved in the intra-Yemeni dialogue, in accordance with the commitments made under the agreements of Stockholm and Riyadh, and in close collaboration with the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths. At the same time, Minister Bogdan Aurescu firmly condemned the recent attacks launched on the Saudi territory, deeming as unacceptable any attack to the safety of the civilian population," MAE also says.
The two officials also analyzed the recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, and Aurescu voiced hope that the announcement of Tuesday evening, September 22, regarding the resumption of exploration talks between Greece and Turkey, scheduled for Thursday, September 24, would open the path to defusing the situation, the release also reads.
