ForMin Comanescu met Asian diplomats for talks on EU eastern neighbourhood, migration
Romania's Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu on Thursday had a working meeting with heads of the diplomatic missions of Asian countries accredited in Bucharest to discuss migration, EU's Eastern Neighbourhood and the need for a coordinated response to the current challenges to international peace and security, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) says in a press statement.
According to the statement, the meeting made for a useful exchange of opinions on actual ways to diversify Romania and EU's cooperation with Asian countries. The sides voiced their will to consolidate their political dialogue and sectoral cooperation, particularly in the economic area.
"The Romanian chief diplomat underscored the importance of dialogue, both on the level of foreign ministries and other governmental organisations, as well as between business communities and among civil society representatives. He made reference to the need of imprinting a pragmatic nature on the bilateral relations, with emphasis on developing economic cooperation and diplomacy. The Romanian official underscored the importance of inter-personal exchanges and cooperation on an academic level, as means for better mutual knowledge and for building an open cooperation climate, based on dialogue and mutual respect," says MAE.
Also discussed at the meeting was cooperation between European and Asian countries in the Asia-Europe format, amidst the 20th anniversary in 2016 of the cooperation process. According to the MAE statement, Romania plays an active part in this process in areas such as regional development and water resources management.
Attending the meeting were the heads of the diplomatic missions of China, Korea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
