GDP IN Q2 2019 WAS, IN REAL TERMS, BY 1.0%1 HIGHER, AS COMPARED TO Q1 2019

 • As against the same quarter of 2018, the Gross Domestic Product recorded an increase by 4.4% for the unadjusted series and by 4.6% for the seasonally adjusted series;

In the first semester of 2019, as against the same period of the previous year, the Gross Domestic product increased by 4.7% for the unadjusted series and by 4.8% for the seasonally adjusted series; • The seasonally adjusted series of quarterly Gross Domestic Product was readjusted as a result of the introduction of the estimates for Q2 2019, being revised as compared to the version published in the Press release no. 170 of 8 July 2019.

Romania's economy grew by 4.8 pct in the first six months of this year, compared to the same period of the previous year, as seasonally adjusted series, and by 4.7 pct as gross series, shows the signal estimate of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In the second quarter of this year, GDP growth was 1 pct compared to Q1 and 4.6 pct compared to Q2 2018 as seasonally adjusted series.

As gross series, compared to the same quarter of 2018, the Gross Domestic Product registered an increase of 4.4 pct in the second quarter of 2019.

"As a result of the revision of the gross series by including the estimate of the Gross Domestic Product for the second quarter of 2019 in the quarterly series, the seasonally adjusted series has been recalculated, without any significant changes in the volume indices compared to the second provisional version of the Gross Domestic Product for the first quarter 2019, published in the press release no 170 of July 8, 2019," mentions the INS.

The Romanian authorities estimate a 5.5 pct growth of the Romanian economy this year.

On the other hand, international financial institutions rely on GDP growth of less than 4 pct in Romania in 2019. Otherwise, the European Commission forecasts indicate an economy advance of 3.3 pct, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) - 3.1 pct , the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - 3.2 pct and the World Bank - 3.6 pct.
