Greeks and Romanians, the last in the EU for household expenses for recreation and culture
The households in the European Union allocated on average 8.5% of the total expenses for consumption for recreation and culture in 2017, the first places being the households in Denmark and Sweden with 11.5% and 11% respectively while at the end of the ranking are the households in Greece and Romania which allocated 4.6% and 5.8% respectively, show the data published on Friday by Eurostat.
Good news is that although in the majority of member states, the share of the expenses for recreation and culture in the total expenses for consumption of the households dropped between 2007 and 2017,Romania is among the states where this share increased from 4.8% in 2007 to 5.8%in 2017,namely a rowth of one percentage point being surpassed only by Slovakia,with a growth of 1.4 percentage point and Lithuania with 1.3 percentage point.
At the level of the European Union, in 2017 the expenses of the households for recreation and culture were 710 billion euro, the equivalent of 4.6% from GDP of the EU or 1,400 euro for each inhabitant of the EU.
