Half  of the Romanians cannot face unexpected  expenses

In Romania, more than half of the people cannot face an unexpected expense over the European average where a person out of three (33.9%) is in this situation in 2017, Eurostat shows.

Out of the EU  member states the highest percentage of those who do not handle unexpected expenses was in Latvia (59.9%), Croatia (56.2%) and Bulgaria (53.2%).


Romania is the fifth in the ranking after Greece with a share of 52% dropping from  54% in 2016.
Less than one person out of four cannot handle  unexpected financial expenses in the Netherlands (20.7%)Austria (20.6%), Luxembourg (20.4%) Sweden (19.7%) and Malta (15.8%) which are best from this point of view.

In the European Union  the share of people who could not handle unexpected financial expenses dropped in 2017 against 2016 with 2.5 percentage points. All countries registered a drop with the exception of Estonia and Denmark (4.7 percentage points and 0.6  percentage points increased).The most important drop were registered in Hungary (-19.3 percentage points) followed by Cyprus (-6.5 percentage points) Malta(-5.0 percentage points) and Slovenia (-4.6 percentage points).
