38% of the 18-29 year olds 34% of the 30-44 year olds, 35% of the 45-59 year olds and 46% of those over 60 think that the future president of Romania should be the representative of a political party. Also, the same opinion is shared by Bucharest residents (37%), residents of cities with over 90 thousand inhabitants (37%), residents of cities with less than 90 thousand inhabitants (29%) and 45% of residents from the rural. Also, 55% of PSD voters, 49% of PNL voters, 48% of AUR voters and 35% of USR voters want a president who is the representative of a political party.

A party-independent president seems to be a more desirable profile for the Romanian population, compared to a party representative. Regardless of the age category or the type of locality in which they live, Romanians have a stronger preference for a president independent of parties. The only categories in which the opinions are more balanced are the population over 60 years old and the residents in rural areas. In the case of voters of the main parties, the data show that no less than 40% of PSD voters are of the opinion that the future president of Romania should be independent of the party. Moreover, the same opinion is shared by 44% of PNL voters, 49% of AUR voters and 58% of USR voters. These data explain why almost all the candidates of the parties measured for the presidential elections have a lower voting intention than that of the parties they represent”, says Remus Stefureac, director of INSCOP Research.
