Iohannis, in Brussels: Intense international efforts are made to unblock situation of foreigners trapped in Gaza

President Klaus Iohannis declared on Thursday that the entire international community is making efforts to unblock the situation in Gaza and find a way out for the foreigners who are still trapped there.

"Unfortunately, I say, unfortunately, so far no one has been able to do this and we are not the only country with citizens stranded in Gaza. We are deeply engaged in these talks and we will continue. We hope to see some progress at a certain point. What can Romania do? Continue to be involved in negotiations, which we are doing, and we are doing it very well. [Foreign] Minister Odobescu and the entire team are very dedicated and highly engaged," said the Romanian head of state before attending the European Council meeting in Brussels.

He showed that at the discussions in Brussels he will reiterate Romania's position, which has been stable for many decades.

"We advocate the two-state solution and, at the same time, we are on the side of Israel - clearly, they have the right to defend themselves. This is indisputable. As for the Palestinian side, it is obvious that solutions must be found in order to not have the civilians pay the price of this war, it's Hamas that must be targeted," Iohannis said.
