Iohannis: Orban gov't doesn't need to go home; it took over gov't when no one else would

The government led by Ludovic Orban "doesn't need to go home," given that the current Executive stepped in to govern "when everyone else preferred to stand aside and comment," President Klaus Iohannis told a press conference on Tuesday, held at the Cotroceni Palace.

"The Orban government does not need to go home. It has been a government for less than a year and has managed this huge crisis. The health system has been brought into this state and left without resources, without reserves, by the previous PSD (Social Democratic Party) governments. On the contrary, the Orban Government took over the government at a time when everyone else preferred to stand aside and comment, which is not good in a pandemic, and this tragedy in Piatra Neamt it shows us once again what we have said for a long time - the way in which PSD treated the health system almost led to the bankruptcy of this system," said the head of state.

He added that "after the elections, with a new majority, the whole system must be reformed, the coordination of the medical act must be taken back by the Ministry of Health and things must be modernized, simplified, improved, investments in new hospitals are needed."

In this context, Iohannis also spoke about the fact that Romanian resident doctors prefer to leave the country.
