Iohannis: we cannot allow, forever, that the Revolution of December 1989 be eclipsed by a shameful weakness of the state
President Klaus Iohannis reiterated, on Wednesday, in the message sent on the occasion of 31 years since the beginning of the Revolution of December 1989, that, 31 years ago, in the name of liberty, the Romanians started the dismantling of communism, by making the supreme sacrifice, and it is not allowed, forever, that the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 be overshadowed by the ‘shameful weakness of the state’.
‘The honour of the victims’ memory means the defence of democracy, of the fundamental rights and liberties, and the most important, the identification and punishment of the guilty ones. Parents, siblings, and children of those who died on the streets of Timisoara are still waiting for justice to be done! We need truth and justice as our national identity is forever connected to the sacrifice of December 1989’ the president said.
According to Iohannis, the young people must know the truth about the communist regime and treasure the sacrifice of those whose lives were ended by bullets in December 1989.
‘Let us hope that the young generations will treasure, in the spirit of truth, the sacrifice of the Romanians killed by bullets in Timisoara and next in other places. The young people must know the truth about the communist regime, as it was, the naked and painful truth about a horrible dictatorship which stole from us 45 years of history, led by infamous people who had never been blamed for so many lives unjustly severed. We will never stop remembering and hoping’ the head of state said.
