ISSPOL opinion poll: Half of Romanians don’t know who to vote or won’t vote
About half of Romanians do not know who to vote or would not vote in 2016, according to an opinion poll made by the Institute of Social and Political Studies (ISSPOL). The study shows that 86% of people interviewed have participated at least once in local elections, while 14% gave negative answers.
In case local elections were held tomorrow, 38% of subjects would not know who to vote while 16% would not vote.
48% said they would vote Social Democrat Party – PSD candidates, 39% National Liberal Party - PNL representatives, 5% Alliance of Liberals and Democrats - ALDE, 4% People's Movement Party- PMP, 3% Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania - UDMR and 1% National Union for Romania's Progress - UNPR.
The opinion poll shows that 83% of Romanians have participated at least in parliamentary elections, while 17% have not.
In case of general elections, 34% of respondents have not decided what party to vote, while 13% said they would not vote at all.
Of the people who would vote, 45% answered they would vote PSD, 39% PNL, 4% ALDE, 4% PMP, 2% UDMR, 4% another party, 2% would choose independent candidates.
The study shows that 36% of people interviewed cannot say what party could win the next legislative elections, while 35% say PSD candidates will win and 27% considered PNL.
Asked what party they would not vote, 23% of respondents declared they would never vote PSD, 21% UDMR, 15% PNL, 9% PMP, 6% UNPR, and 2% ALDE.
35% of Romanians consider that Romania is going to a wrong direction.
On the other hand, most Romanians declare satisfied by the life they lead.
The study shows that the satisfaction about life and confidence that things are going to the right direction grow proportionally with the respondents’ incomes.
Corruption, bad roads and job shortage are the main problems faced by most electors in Romania. 18% of them showed that the main problem is corruption, 17% - bad roads and 16% the job shortage. They are followed by poor medical services, high taxes, bureaucracy of local institutions, lack of parking space and running water.
According to the opinion poll, the electors’ agenda includes creating new jobs, economic development and improving medical services, and interdiction of Syrian immigrants’ access to Romania, the introduction of progressive taxes instead of the single tax share and the reduction of the number of people who receive allocations and social aid.
The ISSPOL study was made over February 1 and 5 at national level, on a sample of 1,065 persons with voting right. The error of margin is 3% with a confidence level of 95%. Data were collected by phone.
