Klaus Iohannis: Law and independence of those at Justice's service are non-negotiable
For a nation which aspires at a dignified future, the law and independence of those who are at the Justice's service are not negotiable, neither are they tradeable, President Klaus Iohannis stated on Tuesday at Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
He underscored that "magistrates represent, through this, one of the pillars that will not allow generations to waste away in permanent and bankrupt new beginnings."
The head of state told the young magistrates whom he welcomed at Cotroceni Presidential Palace that there is an attempt to question the justice act on behalf of people called upon to answer to the law and asked them not to allow themselves be influenced.
"Your investment in office comes at a time when the Justice act is publicly questioned by the very people who are called to answer to the law. This attempt must not influence you and must not deter you from the constitutional principles of legality, impartiality and equality, principles that govern your activity. You are in the first line of defence of the fundamental principles that any authentic rule of law consolidate upon. You should not forget under any circumstances that the good evolution of the Justice in Romania relies on your strength of character, too," Iohannis stressed upon welcoming the graduates of the National Institute of Magistracy (INM) at Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
He affirmed that due to the importance of their position, the young magistrates must remain role models.
Alinel Bodnar, top of his class at INM pointed out that those who are in public dignity positions need to convey messages in support of Justice's independence.
He highlighted that defending Justice's independence also entails the magistrates' obligation to ensure that "any legislative proposal is in the best interest of all the citizens and it does not become an obstacle in the way of complying with the obligation of defending their fundamental rights and liberties."
