Lazar Comanescu met the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson, in New York

Romania's contribution to the United Nations activities was the main topic addressed on Friday in New York by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Lazar Comanescu and the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson, reads a release by the relevant ministry.

The Romanian chief diplomat also emphasised the interest for a better representation to the world organisation with Romanian staff, at level positions in the UN departments, included. 

On the UNGA sidelines, Lazar Comanescu has also met counterparts from Oman and Mozambique, the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (CCG) and the secretary general of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Co-operation (BSEC). Also, he participated in an informal meeting of the BSEC countries' foreign ministers. 

During his meeting with the BSEC secretary general, ambassador Michael Christides, Comanescu approached aspects on streamlining the organisation's activity, preparing the BSEC jubilee Summit of 2017, implementation of the Economic Agenda 2012, as well as the BSEC-EU deeper interaction. 

In his talk with the Gulf Co-operation Council (CCG)'s secertary general, Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Lazar Comanescu restated Romania's wish to strengthen the political, economic relations with the CCG member states. The parties have also addressed the regional security topic with a stress on Syria, Daesh, Yemen and the Peace Process in the Middle East, says the MAE release. 

As for the meeting Comanescu has had with the Foreign Affairs and Co-operation Minister of the Government of Mozambique, Oldemiro Julio Marques Baloi the sides approached the possibilities to reinvigorate bilateral relations, economic in particular, to boost multilateral co-operation. 

During his talk with the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Oman Sultanate, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah the Romanian head of diplomacy expressed the wish to deepen co-operation between the two states, both at political and economic level, never forgetting to tackle the Middle East situation.
