Secretary of State with the Foreign Ministry George Ciamba met on Tuesday Canadian Ambassador in Bucharest Kevin Hamilton with whom he discussed, among others, the lifting of visa requirements for Romanians traveling to Canada, the Foreign Ministry informed in a release.

The two officials reviewed the stage and prospects of bilateral relations, noting in this context the importance of strengthening political and diplomatic dialogue between the two sides. The Romanian official reiterated that for Romania, Canada represents an important NATO ally, also as regards the implementation of measures for reassuring the eastern flank of the Alliance, the cited source said.

An important element of the talks envisaged the development of economic cooperation, with the two officials agreeing that the bilateral relation carries an important potential for increasing Canadian investments in Romania and trade.

The sides reiterated the importance of coordination for the effective implementation of the full removal, by the due deadline of December 1, 2017, of the visa requirements for all Romanian citizens.
