MAE hails the US decision to increase the budget for the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) for 2017
The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) hails the announcement by the United States of America of a fourfold increase of the budget for the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) for 2017, as well as the determination to ensure a robust U.S. military presence in Europe.
"The announcement is a confirmation of the strong commitment of the United States to the European security, by strengthening the Allied measures dedicated to the collective defence and to the deterrence of risk factors. The implementation of the measures announced by the U.S. will significantly contribute to the consolidation of the Romanian security and of the other allies in front of the security challenges faced by our region," the MAE stated in release on Wednesday.
According to this document, Romania is acting in the Strategic Partnership with the U.S. to enhance the cooperation with the American side on the security dimension, and the announcement by the U.S. Administration creates premises for the expansion and diversification of the bilateral cooperation under the ERI.
"The U.S. decision shows the soundness of the transatlantic relation, as a foundation of an Alliance fully prepared to respond to the current and future security challenges; it represents an important element both in support of the implementation of decisions taken at the Allied Summit in the United Kingdom and in preparation of the NATO Summit in Poland this year," the release adds.
