Manea (BCR): at present Romania is growing over the potential

The economic growth recorded by Romania is one over the potential, this being calculated at 2.5% - 2.6% as the country is growing by 3.5% - 3.6% stated Sergiu Manea, CEO at BCR during a conference.

‘We don’t have a so-called GDP growth potential – the growth of the gross domestic product as potentiality, sufficiently robust at present, Romania is growing over the potential. The potential calculated is 2.5% -2.6% and Romania is growing at 3.5% - 3.6%. If you compare Romania’s growth which is very good and I am glad there is such growth to the type of potential growth in the Czech Republic and Sweden, at quality level, indeed we start to have a problem as the advantage over the potential is called bubble’ said Sergiu Manea at the conference ‘ The Human capital of Romania – the adequate work force in the economy and the producer of added value in the society: as we recover what we have ignored over the last 25 years’.

According to him, with a growth of 2-3% Romania will not pass over 75% from the level of the countries in Visegrad ( the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary).

‘Due to lack of coordinated development,Romania is condemned to growth with 2-3% per year. What does it mean? It means that our country will not go over the real threshold of 75-80% against the countries in Visegrad. To be very clear, the moment we are talking about the long-term objectives of our country, they are translated in closing the gap of living standard’ Sergiu Manea said.

At the same time, he said that the lack of transport infrastructure and the lack of medium-qualified work force became the main impediment for Romania’s attractiveness for the existing and potential foreign investors.
