MEP Siegfried Muresan was elected vice-president of the EPP Group in the European Parliament
Liberal Siegfried Muresan has been elected Vice-Chairman of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament on Wednesday.
The Romanian MEP won the vote of 141 colleagues out of 158 cast votes.
The EPP Group is the largest political group in the European Parliament with a total of 179 MEPs.
As Vice-Chair, Siegfried Muresan will be part of the EPP Group presidency with the European Parliament alongside the Group’s Chair and the other 9 Vice-Chairs. The chairmanship is to lead the EPP Group, a press release reads, quoted by hotnews.ro.
“This vote from the EPP MEPs is also a vote of confidence for Romania. The EPP Group was the largest group before the European Parliament elections, we’ve won the elections and we are still the main political force of the European Union. The EPP Group is the only political force that can ensure stability at the level of the Union and which has solutions to people’s problems,” said the PNL MEP in the press release.
From this position, Siegfried Muresan wants “a European Union to solve people’s problems, delivering what people expect from it,” “more safety and more jobs.”
“We, the National Liberal Party, have won the European Parliament elections in Romania. Our political family, EPP, has won the European elections. We, the Romanian delegation in the EPP, have become the third largest delegation in the group. We are a large delegation in a large group. These things are a guarantee that we will be able to obtain concrete benefits for Romania at European level,” Siegfried Muresan argues.
