Minister Achim Irimescu wants that foreigners cannot buy agricultural land in Romania easily
The minister of agriculture and rural development Achim Irimescu announces that law 17/2014 regarding the sale of agriculturalland is to be amended so that foreigners acquire agricultural land in Romania with some difficulty.
He stated on Sunday, in Botosani, that there is pressure on the part of the Romanian farmers for the amendment of the law, after very big surfaces of agricultural land have become the property of foreign companies.
‘We will include filters to ensure that it doesn’t get anyway and to anybody. It is clear that the people who do not have Romanian citizenship are included. There is much pressure from the Romanian producers who consider that the sale led to the estragement of land and the Romanian producers have no land to work’ said Irimescu.
According to him, the decision was taken following a discussion with premier Dacian Ciolos and the specialists of the ministry have a deadline of two weeks to finalise a new draft which could be launched in public debate.
