Minister Motoc received chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army

Minister of National Defence Mihnea Motoc received on Thursday Lieutenant General Constantin Popov, chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army, with discussions focusing on identifying concrete ways to strengthen regional defence cooperation, in order to effectively manage the risks and threats facing the two allied states in the Black Sea region. 

According to a press release of the Defence Ministry (MApN), the two officials reiterated the importance of coordination on issues of common interest on the allied agenda, in view of preparing the NATO Summit in Warsaw, in July 2016. 

''The defence minister praised the cooperation between the armies of the two countries, both bilaterally as well within the North Atlantic Alliance, underscoring the importance of developing an allied posture of deterrence and credible defence, and also the need for a balanced approach, of 360-degree type, of all threats in the current security environment, '' reads the release. 

During his official visit to Romania, Constantin Popov had a meeting with General Nicolae Ciuca, chief of the General Staff, with the two officials tackling issues regarding the cooperation between the armies of Bulgaria and Romania, joint projects in the context of international military cooperation and security issues of the Black Sea Region and South-East Europe. 

''Also discussed were stances on topical issues on the NATO agenda, participation in joint drills and activities carried out to meet operational capacities until mid 2016, for the NATO Force Integration Units (NFIUs) in Bulgaria and Romania,'' adds the MApN release.
