More proposals to diminish impact of rising energy prices, discussed in governing coalition

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca stated, on Monday, that, at the level of the Government, several proposals for mitigating the impact of rising energy prices have been analysed, and they will be discussed on Monday evening in the governing coalition meeting, mentioning that the main purpose is to protect the vulnerable consumer and essential institutions, and for the economy to function.

"The main purpose is to protect the vulnerable consumer, to protect essential institutions, schools and hospitals and, also, to take measures so that the Romanian economy can function and not be as affected by the impact of increases in the prices of energy and gas," answered Ciuca, when asked, before the governing coalition, about the Social Democratic Party's (PSD) proposals to reduce the ceilings for electricity and natural gas.

He added that measures were taken so that state institutions verify all the companies that provide electricity and gas and which have not respected the Vulnerable consumer law. The Prime Minister emphasized the checks will continue "firmly and correctly".
