Multinational exercise SABER GUARDIAN-16 starts today in the 'Getica' Land Forces Training Centre of Cincu, Brasov County
More than 2,700 troops of five NATO countries and five states of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) participate from 27 July to 7 August in the multinational exercise SABER GUARDIAN-16 in the 'Getica' Land Forces Training Centre of Cincu, Brasov County, in central Romania, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) informed.
Romania contributes 900 servicemen, and the U.S. sends 1,700 with M1A2 Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles. They will carry out tactical missions with live ammunition alongside 47 Canadian troops. The command and computer simulation training part is joined by Bulgaria and Poland - the other participating NATO countries, and by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine under the PfP.
SABER GUARDIAN-16 has been planned by the Romanian Land Forces Staff. Its command is provided by the Multinational Division Southeast, Romania's 'Gemina' 4th Infantry Division and the NATO Force Integration Unit. It comprises four stages - command exercises, computer-aided simulation training, field exercises, and firing with all types of weapons, the MApN mentioned.
Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc and Chief of General Staff General Nicolae Ciuca will attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
Computer simulations are interconnected with Bulgaria's Training Centre of Novo Selo and with Ukraine's Peacekeeping and Security Training Centre of Yavoriv.
