Vodafone Romania: Covering white areas, a difficult process
Representatives of Vodafone Romania , fined with 720,000 lei by the National Authority for Management in Communications (ANCOM) for not fulfilling obligations provided by the licence won in 2012, say that covering the so-called “white areas” is a project in which the mobile phone operator permanently invests resources, but the process is difficult because of gridlocks in obtaining necessary construction licences.
On the other hand, Vodafone welcomes the recent amendment of the law about infrastructure in telecommunications - law 154/2012 - which makes procedures for obtaining licences simpler.
ANCOM fined mobile phone operators Orange, Vodafone and Telekom with 900,000 lei for not fulfilling coverage obligations, the highest fine of 720,000 lei being applied to Vodafone.
“Following ANCOM controls, they found that Vodafone Romania had not fulfilled obligations to cover 72 localities of the ones appointed to it according to the licence obtained. Vodafone was fined with 720,000 lei. ANCOM fined Orange Romania with 120,000 lei for not fulfilling obligations in 12 localities. Telekom Romania Mobile Communications did not fulfil its obligations in 6 localities and was fined with 60,000 lei”, the ANCOM press release shows.
Vodafone Romania reported in the second quarter, incomes from services of 173.9 million euros, on the rise by 4.2% compared to the same period of 2015, according to company financial results, released on Friday.
