New registrations of road passenger vehicles down in Q1
The number of new registrations of road passenger vehicles went down 7.7 percent in the first quarter of 2011 compared with the similar period of last year, according to a release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
At the same time, the number of new registrations of road vehicles for freight transport increased 57.9 percent in the first three months of this year compared with the first quarter of last year.
INS mentions that in the new registrations category they include new registrations of new vehicles made in Romania or in other countries, imported used vehicles, as well as leased vehicles, excluding re-registrations due to owner change.
In the first three months of this year compared with the first quarter of 2010, there were registered 42.8 percent increases in the bus and mini-bus category (477 from 334), a 12.4 percent decline in the moped and motorcycle category (842 from 961) and an 8 percent drop in the car category (41,174 from 44,755).
As far as the number of new registrations of road vehicles for freight transport is concerned, the most significant increase was witnessed in the lorry category, standing at 77.4 percent compared with the Q1 of 2010 (8,780 from 4,950).
According to INS, the number of new registrations of road passenger vehicles decreased 65.1 percent and the number of new registrations of road vehicles for freight transport declined 5.2 percent from the last quarter of last year.
