'Oedipus Month in London' organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute
'Oedipus Month in London', a broad programme meant to celebrate the masterpiece of George Enescu through musical events, exhibitions, conferences and special screenings, featuring opera stars, musicologists of international reputation, and fine artists fascinated by the music of Enescu, will be organized from 4 May through 8 June by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
According to the ICR London website, the event is built around the absolute premiere of the 'Oedipus' in the United Kingdom on 23 May at the Royal Opera, and it's going to unfold both on the well-known musical scene of Covent Garden and in the ICR London premises.
The events will feature a reputed cast: director Valentina Carrasco, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, composer Dan Dediu, soprano Lauren Fagan, Kasper Holten - musical director of the Royal Opera, conductor Leo Hussain, director Alex Ollé, bass baritone Johan Reuter, bass Sir John Tomlinson, soprano Rodica Vica and baritone Iuri Iurciuc. The programme also includes musicologist Cristina Andrei, the director of the George Enescu National Museum in Bucharest, piano players Diana Ionescu and Christopher Willis, and photographer Cornel Brad.
The programme is carried by the ICR London in a partnership with the Covent Garden Royal Opera, with support of the Romanian Embassy in the United Kingdom and the George Enescu National Museum in Bucharest.
'Oedipus Month' in the British capital is similar to spring 2015 'Enescu Month in London' on the occasion of the Royal Festival Hall premiere of Enescu's Third Symphony interpreted by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the current artistic manager of the Enescu Festival, Vladimir Jurowski, the source adds.
