One in seven COVID-19 cases reported in medical staff; 93.6pct of deaths had at least one comorbidity

Between 15 and 21 June 2020, 45.7 percent of the cases of infection with the novel coronavirus in Romania were registered in Bucharest, Brasov, Suceava, Vrancea and Arges, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) informs on Tuesday.

According to the weekly monitoring report carried out based on the data reported until 21 June, 47.3 percent of the total deaths were registered in Suceava, Vrancea, Bucharest, Arges and Bistrita-Nasaud.  In the counties of Brasov and Vrancea, there is a cumulative incidence rate of over 50 / 100,000 inhabitants, the report shows. Moreover, one in seven COVID-19 infection cases occurred among the medical staff.

The INSP also shows that 76.7 percent of the total deaths were recorded in people aged over 60, 58.8 percent of whom were men. According to the INSP data, 93.6 percent of the deceased had at least one associated comorbidity.

As many as 1,241 people are in institutional quarantine on Romanian territory, and another 70,768 people are isolated at home and under medical monitoring as a result of the novel coronavirus epidemic, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs on Tuesday. According to the quoted source, 639,322 tests have been processed nationwide so far.
