One of Islamic State jihadists has transited Romania on his way to Syria

A document containing 1,736 registration forms with the personal data of Islamic State jihadists released by a website of the Syrian opposition reveals that one of them has transited Romania on his way to Syria, the Belgian media informed on Thursday.

A Belgian student of Algerian origin and resident in the city of Liege joined the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) on February 6, 2014, expressing his desire to fight and die a "martyr". According to the cited source, he traveled from Belgium to Syria via Romania. Le Soir newspaper gives his IS codename as Abou al-Nour Jazeri, alongside the codes of another two Belgian jihadists whose real identity is not mentioned in the document.

The document with the 1,736 IS registration forms was published from Qatar by the independent news website Zaman al-Wasl. In parallel, the British television station Sky News announced on Thursday that a deserter jihadist had supplied it with a list of about 22,000 IS combatants from 51 countries. The authenticity of these lists is being verified, but some experts already voiced doubts at them.

On Tuesday, German media too reported that Western intelligence services had obtained lists of names and data of the IS group militants the authenticity of which has already been confirmed by the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).
