Opposition accuses PSD and ALDE of blocking in Parliament law on Patriot missile purchase

Save Romania Union - USR and liberal party - PNL said on Tuesday that Social Democratic Party – PSD and  Alliance of Liberals and Democrats - ALDE were trying to block in Parliament the purchase of Patriot missiles, when members of the two power parties missed the meeting of the Defence Commission in Senate which had the bill on missile purchase on the agenda.

“USR warns that PSD-ALDE majority is trying to block in Parliament the law on the purchase of the first Patriot missile system, thus jeopardising the strategic partnership with the USA”, the USR press release shows.

According to that document, none of the PSD-ALDE collition senators was present on Tuesday, at the meeting of the Defence and Public Order Commission in Senate which had the bill on the purchase of the Patriot missile purchase on the agenda.

The meeting had no quorum and the law could not be debated.

The president of the Defence Commission in Senate, liberal Iulian Dumitrescu, told Mediafax that, because of the absence of PSD-ALDE members the bill was blocked for another week.

The Senate Defence Commission should make a report on Tuesday, on the bill on the “Air soil defence capacity” of the essential equipping program HSAM.”

Members of the Tudose government approved, in the Wednesday meeting, the bill by which the army will purchase seven soil-air Patriot missile systems with the necessary equipment, the  value of the contract being 3.9 billion dollars/

The first system will be bought until the end of the year for 764,780,000 dollars.
