PM Ciolacu: Romania will double transit capacity for grain from Ukraine by the end of 2023

By the end of the year, Romania will double the transit capacity for grain from Ukraine, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Wednesday.

At the end of a joint meeting in Kyiv of the national governments of Romania and Ukraine, he said that the volume of Ukrainian grain that will pass through Romania every month will increase from two to four million tonnes.

"Together we managed to find a jointly agreed formula by which to both facilitate grain transit and protect the Romanian market and the interests of Romanian farmers. Moreover, at today's joint meeting we reiterated our commitment to doubling the transit capacity from two million tonnes a month to four million by the end of the year. And we will do so by continuing to invest in the infrastructure of the port of Constanta, the Danube ports, as well as in roads or the railway," said Ciolacu.

He gave assurances that grain exports from Ukraine to Romania will be done while the interests of Romanian farmers are protected.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, almost 30 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain have transited through Romania.
