Porumboiu's new feature competing at Locarno Festival among EU-funded films

Corneliu Porumboiu's new feature film 'When evening falls on Bucharest or metabolism' is one of the four feature films to be screened in the international contest of the Locarno Festival which received funding from the European Union under the MEDIA programme, the European Commission said in a release on Tuesday.

Porumboiu's feature film, which has actors Bogdan Dumitrache, Diana Avramut, Mihaela Sirbu and Alexandru Papadopol in the cast, has received 24,000 euros worth of funding under the MEDIA programme.

'The MEDIA programme is once again in the spotlight at Locarno, which has always been a fantastic platform for European films,' said Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, who is also responsible for the MEDIA programme. 'MEDIA stands for a strong European film industry and for cultural diversity. I am delighted that MEDIA will continue to support our most talented film-makers as part of the new Creative Europe programme from next year,' she added.

'When evening falls on Bucharest or metabolism' will make its world premiere at the 66th edition of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, which will take place over August 7 – 17.
