President Iohannis: " Get your hands off of DNA!"

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Thursday that he will notify the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) about the GEO on the modification of the Criminal Codes.

"In respect to the GEO, I decided to notify the CCR," the head of state said.

He showed that the notification is aimed at the juridical conflict of a constitutional nature between the Government, on the one side, and the Justice system and Parliament, on the other side.

President Iohannis pointed out that the notification has been sent to the CCR.

" Get your hands off of DNA!" was the message President Klaus Iohannis sent to government members on Thursday, in the context of the information on a possible re-organisation of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

"I am telling you a very clear thing, and mostly to government members: Get your hands off of DNA!," Iohannis said at the Cotroceni Palace.

President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday said that the solutions to the current crisis must come from politicians, showing that next week he will invite "more people to discussions" at the Cotroceni Palace.

"I will certainly invite more people for discussions, but as only yesterday I wrote to the Prime Minister and maybe he was busy, we don't know what with, as no one saw him, but I want to give him the chance to reflect on what I have written him there for a day or two. I don't want him to give me a rushed answer, same as last time, because it is of no use to anyone, certainly not to him, and then I will have to invite people to Cotroceni to find a solution to this crisis, because otherwise things get more serious and the street can protest, Romanians say their discontents, but solutions cannot come from the street, solutions must come from politicians, I will certainly invite them next week to present me their solutions, but this is a subsequent stage," Iohannis said at the Cotroceni Palace, when asked if he was planning on having a discussion with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu.

He pointed out that Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu didn't answer the letter by which he requested him to repeal GEO on Criminal Codes amendment.

"He didn't reply and I don't know where he is, as he hasn't been seen much lately," the head of state said.

President Klaus Iohannis sent Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu a letter on Wednesday asking the latter to repeal the GEO for the modification of the Criminal Codes, the Presidential Administration announced.
