President Iohannis pays state visit to Lithuania

President Klaus Iohannis begins Tuesday a two-day state visit to Lithuania; he will meet his counterpart Dalia Grybauskaite, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius and Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauziniene.

According to a release of the Presidential Administration, the official talks will address the ways to develop the political and economic relations, focusing on the enhanced specialized cooperation in energy security, transportation and new technologies.

The President will present Romania's evaluation and discuss adequate responses to the complex challenges currently faced by the European Union.

"A priority topic will be the collaboration between the two states within NATO, especially for the preparation of the 8 — 9 June Summit in Warsaw, and the consolidation of a credible and robust Allied presence for deterrence on the whole eastern flank of NATO; also, the strengthening of the NATO — EU strategic partnership," the said release reads.

Iohannis will also insist on finding new opportunities of cooperation for reviving the Eastern Partnership and supporting the states in the EU's Eastern Neighbourhood interested in their European integration, especially the Republic of Moldova.

The President' agenda in Lithuania includes visits of the Vilnius Technology and Innovation Centre, the country's largest scientific research institution.
