President of Bilderberg Group: Foreigners are more confident in country's future than Romanians

Romania resembles Europe, but outside this country people are more confident in Romania's future than the Romanians are, said Viscount Etienne Davignon, president of the Bilderberg Group, on Thursday.

People need courage to do what they must do and of course there is a political price they have to pay for it. It is important that institutions should be reliable, it is important that European institutions should give up the idea that they are bureaucratic and technocratic and do not care for people as institutions create sustainability and we need hope and sustainability. I think Romania too needs it. Romania resembles Europe, but outside this country people are more confident in Romania's future than the Romanians are,' Etienne Davignon told a conference titled 'Europe, Where Are You Going?'

He emphasized the fact that there was the capability to make things better, it was no dream, it was founded on the material reality and on a form of discipline that combines solidarity and seriousness.

Etienne Davignon also voiced hope that next year we should see the end of the recession, also in countries with difficult situations such as Greece, and that we should see the beginning of the return to the economic growth.

The conference titled 'Europe, Where Are You Going?' was organized on the 20th anniversary of the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome with the extraordinary participation of Viscount Etienne Davignon, president of the Bilderberg Group.
