Prince of Wales Foundation launches programme to support small Romanian farmers and producer
Prince of Wales Foundation announces the launch of the first large programme designed to support small Romanian farmers and producers, a ten-month pilot-project to be carried out as a research study in five of Romania's historical regions: Transylvania, Danube Delta, Bucovina, Maramures and Banat.
"We intend to approach several hundred producers from these regions to see what natural products they are making, in what quantity and of what quality, how they sell them and how much money they gain from it. In the end of this journey, we will nominate five products of a superior quality (with the help of food experts from Romania, Italy and UK), products that can give a nice account about the potential of Romanian agriculture. This research study will also show us what are the everyday difficulties faced by farmers and producers and we hope that, based on our findings, we will be able to design future projects to endorse their activity more fitly," the foundation wrote on Facebook.
The products making the object of this research study are: cheese products, meat products, honey, oils, mushrooms, vegetables and fruits (including jams and canned food).
According to the said source, the research to be conducted in each region will conclude with a cooking course that, on the one hand, will help improving the skills of some beginner cookers and, on the other hand, will help having this products listed in the menu of food businesses in the area, as recipes using local ingredients with a lot of inspiration, and also for creating an experience for the tasters.
