A program supporting and promoting talented students with special cognitive potential, which has in view identifying, stimulating and promoting young people with exceptional school results will be carried out by the Romanian Academy.
According to a press release posted on the Academy website, the program called “Romanian Academy in dialogue with young people” will be coordinated by a work group made of Academy members and graduate teaching staff. Its main targets of the project will be: organizing a study center for gifted youth, organizing annual summer/winter schools, granting special prizes, scholarships for performing students from less favored environments.
“Following decades in which the Academy had all its goods confiscated and then recovered with difficulty and only partially, after many court trial, we are now in the situation of setting up a special financing fund and of resuming, on new coordinates, the involvement of the Academy in turning to account the excellence of Romanian young people. Our action replaces the mission of the National Center for Differentiated Instruction, provided by law 17/2007 which is still not functioning.”
In order to identify and select performing students, the Romanian Academy will use data held by county school inspectorates, some of which have excellence centers for over gifted children.
“For 2020, the Romanian Academy has already allocated 250,000 lei from the Donors' Recurrent Fund for the program “Romanian Academy in dialogue with young people” and will also attract other funds and sponsorships,” according to a press release signed by the president of the Romanian Academy, Ioan Aurel Pop.
