Romania among the last in the EU for visiting cultural spaces
Only 18.3% of the Romanians aged at least 16 visited a cultural space at least one time in 2015, as compared to 43.4% at the level of the European Union, show the data published on Friday by Eurostat.
While only two thirds of the people aged at least 16 visited a cultural space in 2015 in countries such as Sweden (67.2%), Denmark, the Netherlands and Finland (61.4%) less than a quarter of the population visited a historical monument, museum, art gallery or archaeological site in Bulgaria (14.6%), Greece (16.9%) and Romania (18.3%).
As compared to the situation of 2006, in 2015 the share of population aged at least 16 who visited at least one cultural space increased in the great majority of the member states, the highest increase being recorded in the Netherlands (from 49.1% in 2006 up to 61.4% in 2015 or a growth of 12.3 percentage points) Malta (growth of 11.7 percentage points) Estonia (9.9 percentage points) France (9.3 percentage points) and the Czech Republic (8 percentage points).
Only seven member states reported a drop of the population who visited a cultural space in 2015 as compared to 2006. The most important drop was recorded in Slovakia (from 44.4% in 2006 to 33.7% in 2015 or a drop of 10.7 percentage points), Hungary (minus 6.3 percentage points) and Cyprus (minus 5.4 percentage points).
