Romania asks Brussels return of 928 million euros in October for 2014-2020 programs
The Ministry of European Investments and Projects (MIPE) announced on Thursday, that in October it sent documents for the return of European funds of 928 million euros, as part of 2014-2020 operational programs.
According to a press release of the ministry, issued on Thursday, the highest amounts requested for return were for the Regional Operational Program -342.5 million euros, Bif Infratsructure Operationa; Program – about 371 million euros and Human Capital Operational Program – about 138 million euros.
Other programs for which returns were requested are: Operational Program for Aid of Disadvantaged People – 28.1 million euros. Competitiveness Operational Program (24.4 million euros), Administrative Capacity Operational Program (13 million euros) and Technical Assistance Operational Program (11.4 million euros).
Documents were sent to the Finance Ministry, to be sent to the European Commission after certification, the source pointed out. The amounts requested for return represent eligible expenses made from European funds within financed projects.
MIPE mentioned that in September 2023 it sent documents for the return of 900 million euros.At present, the amounts requested for return by the European Commission amunted to 20.2 billion euros, representing an absorbtion of 82.4% of allocated funds. After processing the documents recently sent by MIPE, the value requested for return will amount to 21.16 billion euros, with an absorbtion rate of 86%.
