Romania has joined the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum
Romania has joined the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF), which allows it to benefit from financial support and technical assistance in developing public policies, the Ministry of Energy, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and the Business Environment informs.
The ministry expressed in a letter Romania's intention to join CSLF on October 20, and received a positive answer.
"As a CSLF member, Romania can benefit from financial support, technical assistance in developing public and cooperation policies in the research and development of technological capacity at a national level," a ministry's release reads.
In this context, a ministry's delegation led by Minister Andrei Gherea will participate from November 1 through 5 in a high-level meeting of the working group of the member states in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The CSLF is an international ministerial-level initiative on climate change which focuses on developing efficient technologies for the separation and caption of carbon dioxide and for safe transportation and long-term storage.
The CSLF structure includes 22 countries, such as the US, Germany, the UK, France, Canada, Australia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Poland, up till now the only Eastern European country, as well as the European Commission.
The projects developed in CSLF member states can receive the qualifier 'CSLF-recognized Project', something that in Romania's case would raise the attractiveness of the project for institutions such as the EU, as well as for public and private investors.
The importance of the CSLF can be seen in the light of the recognition from G8 leaders of this initiative as a main cooperation and collaboration environment on greenhouse gas. The mission of the CSLF is to facilitate the development of new technologies in mineral resources exploitation through international collaboration aimed at removing technical, economic and environment barriers. Moreover, the CSLF promotes the development of regulation systems, of the legal framework and financial and institutional mechanisms needed to implement the new technologies.
