Romania, Serbia sign economic cooperation protocol
The Protocol of the Joint Romania-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation was signed in Bucharest, the objectives of the document aiming at the carrying out of strategic investments and the two states' cooperation on the development of the Danube Region, informs a release of the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA).
The document signed by the Joint Commission includes aspects of the Romanian-Serbian economic cooperation, as well as the outlooks thereof. Envisaged are the increase and diversification of bilateral trade, inclusively by the conclusion of an agreement on small-scale border traffic, supporting the Pan-European Oil Pipeline project, the role of the chambers of commerce in developing public-private partnership relations, achieving particular investment goals and attracting strategic investments, the establishment of economic clusters, technology parks and business incubators.
The same document also highlights the aspects related to cooperation in transport, agriculture, the sanitary and veterinary sector.
At the end of September 2010, total commercial exchanges between Romania and the Republic of Serbia stood at 695.2 million US dollars, of which exports accounted for 468 million dollars and imports for 227.2 million. The balance ran 240.8 million dollars in Romania's favor. Bilateral trade increased 20.2 pct from the same period of the year before, with exports advancing 15.7 pct and imports by 30.6 pct, respectively. Romanian investments in the Serbian economy total about 60 million dollars.
The Joint Romania-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation held its first session in Bucharest, under the chairmanship of MECMA Secretary of State Károly Borbély. The Serbian delegation was headed by Secretary of State with the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Vesna Arsic. The next session of the Joint Commission will take place in Serbia.
