Romtelecom in 8 mln euro deal to take over Boom TV subscribers
Romanian telecom company Romtelecom signed last week a contract to take over the subscriber base and other actives of DTH Television Grup, the owner of digital satellite television Boom TV, for which it offered 8 million euro, Adrian Lotrean, partner at Transilvania Insolvency House, the judicial administrator of the company said. Romtelecom's was the only firm offer submitted for Boom TV, a satellite TV service operator with 95,000 subscribers.Adrian Lotrean said the contract was complex as it included several phases to be accomplished, including an approval of the Competition Council over the deal.Insolvency procedures of DTH Television Grup started in May last year. February 17 was the last day a plan to reorganise the company could be submitted.
Romtelecom subscribers total 4.7M
Romtelecom Romanian Telephony Company totaled about 4.7 million subscribers in end 2010 compared to the previous year, and exceeded one million clients in the broadband and the TV supply services, the Company's general manager Yorgos Ioannidis told a news release.
According to him, Romtelecom succeeded satisfactory results thanks to the considerable efforts aimed at lowering the operational costs, and launching, on the market, the appropriate offers such as the joint ones with Cosmote.
The IPTV clients almost numbered 30,000, at the yearend, while the VDSL services attracted almost 50,000 subscribers. Romtelecom also launched Dolce Sport an infotainmenmet TV channel, Ioannidis added.
He also stressed that 2010 was a difficult year for Romtelecom, as well as for Romania's entire telecom market, having faced the clients' demands to drop the budgets allocated to the communication and entertainment.
'It would have been hard on any telecom market, but it was even harder on a market like that in Romania, facing one of the fieriest price competition in the area. We have topped the data and the broadband Internet market in the business segment, after several companies successfully launched in the field,' the Romtelecom manager explained
Romtelecom Romania scored substantial price cuts, despite the rise in the TV fees, the Company's official concluded.
