Sixty-five young people who died in Colectiv Club fire, commemorated by hundreds of people
The victims of an October 30, 2015 fire at Colectiv Club in Bucharest were commemorated on Friday evening at the scene of the tragedy, to the sounds of guitars played by young people who performed songs by the Goodbye to Gravity band, Vali Sterian, the Phoenix and the Colibri bands.
Hundreds of people marched to the location of the now closed club where they laid flowers, lit candles and kept a moment of silence next to the pictures of the 65 young people who lost their lives in the tragedy of two years ago and at the monument in Bucur Square dedicated to their memory.
Included among the marchers were survivors of the Colectiv fire and relatives of the deceased. Some were wearing shirts printed with the pictures of the victims.
One of the survivors of the tragedy, Alex, said that much could have been done in the past two years.
"In Western countries, when an incident occurs, people gather and put on paper what went wrong. We're investigating the culprits before we solve the problems, I think solving problems is more important; only then shall we point the finger and lock up the culprits," he said.
Alex regrets that this is now the case. "Leaving me aside, people have lost their lives here. I am sorry to come here with a bitter taste. Unfortunately we have not learned anything. We are an immature state, we are immature people, wicked by nature; we are opinionated, and we want respect without first offering it. It's hard for me, because this is the place white I almost lost my life," said Alex.
Also coming for the march were former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, as well as the former ministers Dragos Paslaru and Vlad Voiculescu.
The GTG 3010 Colectiv Association, which initiated the commemoration of the victims, also announced that on Sunday "a reunion of those who suffered, those who helped and those who were ny teh soide of the victims' will take place in Buchares. At 18:00hrs, local, the Romanian Arenas will become the venue for a music performance by the Dr. Emil Nichifor Bucharest Orchestra of Physicians.
On Monday at 18:00hrs, the Romanian Arenas hosted a coustic concert to be staged by Subcarpati, Coma, Luna Amara, Cred ca sunt Extraterestru, Gray Matters, Days of Confusion, Pixels, Breathelast and Jinx Von Ders.
According to a press statement released by the association, the funds and donations raised will be used both to the benefit of the Colectiv fire victims, to disburse their medical bills, and to organise next year's event, in hopes that the "# 3010 Festival" will be held each year.
