SNSPA accuses anti-European and antidemocratic speech promoted by party representatives
The academic community of SNSPS accuses the public anti-European and antidemocratic speech promoted of late in the public by representatives of parliamentary political parties.
SNSPA points out that xenophobia, retrograde nationalism and discourse based on hatred are not values of peace, democracy and the European area the Romanian society is part of.
“Such speeches, based on stereotypes and prejudices, dynamite the bases of Romanian democracy and stimulate Euroskeptical attitudes, affecting the unity and stability of the European Union,”SNSPA said in a press release.
At the same time, SNSPA asks all political parties to firmly delimit themselves from members who have a discourse based on “hatred, discrimination, xenophobia and false information, which manipulate and launch attacks that exceed limits” of a democratic political confrontation and which attack persons, institutions and states”, affecting Romania’s image and strategic interests.
Representatives of the Romanian higher education institution draw attention to responsibilities central and local media have in the context in which they host and promote such speeches.
“The journalists’ lack of reaction to messages of politicians whose attitudes contradict European values and principles represent a factor for worry which can place the independence and/or professionalism of press institutions under a question mark,” the source shows.
